Welcome to the Intelligence AFSC discussion blog. The purpose of this blog is to foster discussion between future Air Force officers interested in Intel and current officers in the Intel career field. The views expressed in this blog are solely the opinions of the individual authors and not of the United States Air Force nor the Department of Defense.

Best: #1 You can get stationed anywhere.
#2 Also, there are tons of specialties within Intel, so if you get stuck with a job you don't like...no worries, you can always do something completely different next. Examples, Targeting, SIGINT, IMINT, HUMINT, MASINT, etc... #3 Access to the best info.
Worst: #1 You can get stationed anywhere. #2 Some operational units treat Intel as a support function, not as an equal team member. # 3 No bonus.
What are the different specialties that you talked about? SGINT, IMINT, etc?
Which are more competitive to get into?
Stealth Cadet: Good thing about Intel is that you graduate an Intel Officer, which means you have no specialty. You gain specialties by job experience.
Targeting: bombs, rockets, fuzes, weaponeering, targeting school.
SIGINT: Signals Intelligence...electronic beeps and squeeks.
IMINT: Imagery Intelligence.
HUMINT: Human Resources Intelligence.
MASINT: Measurement & Signature INtelligence.
GEOINT: Geospatial Intelligence.
None are necessarily more competitive to get into...it's just that the AF does more of certain -INTs like SIGINT, IMINT, Targeting. Not so much HUMINT.
We are a jack of all trades AFSC. You will be expected to do a lot of different Intel jobs throughout your career.
The best thing about Intel is that you can get stationed at lots of joint commands where you can learn from your Navy brethren. :~)
There are so many interesting and not really jobs and if you still hesitate whether your job is bad, follow the link worst and best jobs you probably dont know
